FAQs

Please email me at lisamurphymusic@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A recording session is about capturing the best possible performance in a comfortable, creative environment.

Whether you’re recording vocals, instruments, or building a full track from scratch, the goal is to make the process feel natural while getting professional-quality results.

During a session, we’ll focus on:

  • Setting up the right sound and recording chain for your voice or instrument
  • Recording multiple takes to capture the strongest performance
  • Exploring ideas, harmonies, layers, and creative choices
  • Coaching delivery, timing, and emotion when needed
  • Making sure everything is recorded cleanly and professionally
  • Keeping the session relaxed, collaborative, and productive

Every artist works differently, so sessions are tailored to your workflow and energy. Some sessions move fast and spontaneous, while others are more detailed and experimental — the focus is always on creating something authentic and release-ready.

That’s completely fine — you don’t need to play an instrument to create great music.

Many artists come in with just lyrics, melodies, voice notes, or even just an idea and we build the track together from there. As a producer, my role is to help bring your vision to life by creating the sound, arrangement, and overall feel of your song in a way that fits your style and artist identity.

It could be that I play some of the instruments on the track, that I programme some parts using samples and software instruments, or that you want me to suggest some session musicians that you can hire to help out.

We can discuss all of this at the start of your project and make a plan together.

Getting your session organised before sending it off makes the mixing process smoother, faster, and gives you the best possible result. Here are a few things to check before exporting your files:

  • Export all tracks as WAV files in the same sample rate and bit depth as your session.
  • Make sure every file starts from the same point so everything lines up correctly.
  • Remove unnecessary plugins or processing unless it’s essential to the sound.
  • Leave headroom on your master bus — avoid clipping or heavy limiting.
  • Label all tracks clearly (Lead Vocal, Kick, Guitar L, etc.).
  • Include any reference tracks or notes about the sound you’re aiming for.
  • Consolidate and clean up edits, fades, and timing before exporting.
  • If you have effect throws or creative processing you want kept, send both wet and dry versions when possible.

The more organised your session is, the more time can be spent enhancing the music instead of fixing technical issues.

Getting it right is really important to me.  I hope that we will on the right path from the beginning of the project, because we will have the right conversations about your music and what you are looking to achieve.

I do not charge extra for mix/master revisions - you can have as many as it takes to get right.

Honestly, it's not normally more than 2 or 3 - because we will set expectations together at the start.  But we will work together until you are totally happy the mix meets your expectations.

No extra charge for these - it's included in the mix/master price.

To get the best possible master, your mix should be clean, balanced, and exported correctly. A well-prepared file gives more room to enhance the depth, clarity, punch, and overall impact of your track.

Before sending your mix:

  • Export your final mix as a WAV or AIFF file.
  • Use the original session sample rate and bit depth when exporting.
  • Leave headroom on the master bus — avoid clipping or excessive limiting.
  • Remove mastering plugins unless they are an intentional part of the sound.
  • Make sure the mix feels finished creatively before mastering.
  • Export the version without fades unless they are intentional.
  • Double check for clicks, pops, distortion, or unwanted noise.
  • Include reference tracks if you have a specific sound or loudness in mind.

Mastering works best when the mix already sounds close to how you want the final record to feel — the goal is enhancement, balance, and translation, not repairing a mix.

Yes, I offer 1:1 sessions at Production Room.  These are two hours long and cost £50.

If you'd like to book in, you can use the online booking form here to find availability and book in.

If you are learning about mixing or working on producing your own songs, I'd be happy to help with advice and feedback.

I offer a mix feedback service to provide detailed, honest, and constructive feedback on your mixes from the perspective of a real engineer and listener.

Submit your track to me as a WAV file. I will feedback in detail and suggest techniques and ideas for improvement, if needed.  This service costs £20 to cover my time.  I also offer a more simple, less detailed feedback service for £10 per track.

I focus on the elements that impact how your music feels and translates: balance, clarity, dynamics, stereo image, low-end control, vocal presence, emotional impact, arrangement choices, and overall commercial readiness.

If you'd like to book this service, you can book online here.
